PHOTOGRAPHY
It may be unnecessary to state that pointing a camera at a particular object or scene and pressing the shutter will not result in an artful photograph. The making of a photograph requires a certain intent, a sense of exploration, a good dose of curiosity and a willingness to make choices. A photograph is not a mirror. It is instead an abstraction, not a duplication of the subject. Photographs are fictions, really and Photography demands a tolerance for ambiguity. It will surely introduce you to doubt.
My aim is to seek a certain other worldliness in the common occurrences of a human life. I try to find form in the two-dimensional, flat world of a photograph. Form breathed into existence by soft or bold shadows and all versions light. These are just some of the things I joyfully wrestle with every time I pick up the camera. And it’s harder than you might think.
